Alumnus Ken Wheeler to Address 2012 Graduates
The Rev. Ken Wheeler, a member of the class of 1982, will address the 2012 graduating classes of Trinity Lutheran Seminary and Bexley Hall Seminary during commencement at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19. Pastor Wheeler is the pastor of Cross Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and served 18 years as an assistant to the bishop of the Greater Milwaukee Synod of the ELCA.The day will begin with Eucharist at 10 a.m. in the Gloria Dei Worship Center. The Rev. Dr. Henry J. Langknecht, associate professor of Homiletics and Christian Communications, will preach. Graduates will begin their procession from Trinity to Capital University's Mees Auditorium at 1:45 p.m.
President Ramseth Announces Plans to Retire in January 2013
At the May 6-8 meeting of the Trinity Lutheran Seminary Board of Directors, President Mark R. Ramseth submitted a letter announcing his intent to retire at the conclusion of his second six-year term, effective January 31, 2013.
President Ramseth came to Trinity in February, 2001, from Montana, where he served two terms as Bishop of the ELCA’s Montana Synod. In recent years, the Ramseth’s four daughters and their families, two living in Montana and two in Minnesota, have encouraged their parents to retire and live closer to them. The Rev. Carol Ramseth is a graduate of Trinity Lutheran Seminary (’07) and currently serves as interim pastor at David Lutheran Church in Canal Winchester, Ohio, just south of Columbus.
In submitting his letter to the board, President Ramseth said there has not been a day when he has awakened and not felt called to his vocation to be in and with the seminary community. “I am ever grateful for the privilege that the church offers me to serve in this place,” he said.
The Board of Directors is now implementing a plan for the future leadership of the seminary.
Summer Term 2012
Summer Term 2012 will offer an array of courses, including a number of music courses, historical and theological study of alternative religions in America, instruction in family systems, and a travel immersion course in Appalachia. Students can register for one-week or three-week courses for credit or audit. The Summer Term begins June 4. You may register up until Thursday, May 31, on a space-available basis.
